analysis of print product 3
The masthead of this magazine cover is glamour, again with
this brand they use the same font for there specific magazine so you can easily
tell what magazine you are picking up without seeing the whole page, the only
thing this brand does is change the colour of there masthead to fit the colour
scheme of the magazine, for this magazine the colour of the masthead is pink
but for a different one it could be yellow.
The colour scheme is helping show the targeted audience for
this magazine, as its all mainly pinks with some purple and black this would
draw in a female audience as pink is a feminine colour, within this magazine
though there is some binary opposition as there is a white background within
this image giving a sense of purity however the magazine cover is filled with
words like “men” and “ sex” making this magazine for an older female audience
rather than the younger audience.
the fonts within this image are mainly bolder fonts to allow
everything to stand out more against the main image. The coverline “men ,men ,men”
is in the largest and the boldest font while anything else in this font is
quite a bit smaller in comparison this makes the audience read specific things
first as they stand out, within coverlines some words are in different fonts
and colours to exaggerate them specific words, these words help set the mood
for the magazine as these are again what the audience would read first before properly
reading it.
The main image of this magazine also attracts a female
audience as it’s a woman looking in her young 20s, she is wearing all pink to
fit in with the colour scheme and attract that original female audience. The
way she is looking directly towards the camera within this image helps draw in
the reader of this magazine, it’s almost like a seducing look wand this look
also links in with coverlines around the image.
The coverlines of this image allow the audience to know what’s
within the magazine, one of the coverlines saying “the guys and sex issue” lets
the audience know that this magazine shouldn’t really be for a younger audience
as its mentioning sex and men and young people shouldn’t want or need to know
about this. It again links to that older female audience as its talking about
men and the sexual life. The magazine is mentioning “fashion” “health” “want
from women” which will be directed towards that older female audience as its
talking about having good health which older women want, I would say this is
directed at women without a relationship as it mentioning a lot about men and
what they would want to help this in need female audience.
The main coverline being “Men, Men, Men!” allows for this
single female audience to jump towards this magazine as its talking about men
within the magazine so it could give these people hope and a sense of love
while reading this magazine. This main coverline goes across some of the main
image allowing this to be the first thing the audience would look at so it
would be the main subject of the magazine.
The rule of thirds is used well within this cover; you have
the main image covering the middle of the page while the text is spread around
the side. With the rule of thirds in this image you have the key points men are
attracted to within each section of the middle strip you have the females face,
chest, and bottom area this also links in with the main coverline talking about
men.
